Described as "one of the world's leading ensembles of violin, cello and piano" (Washington Post), and "the Beaux Arts Trio of the 21st century" (The Baltimore Sun), the Vienna Piano Trio has been praised for its silken homogenous sound, and its "telepathic gifts of communication" (The Plain Dealer).  The ensemble studied with the Trio di Trieste, the Beaux Arts Trio, the Haydn Trio Wien; Isaac Stern chose them for his 1993 Public Chamber Music Workshop at Carnegie Hall.

For years, the ensemble performed in Vienna within the  Jeunesse series at the Wiener Musikverein; as of the 06/07 season the trio has become the ensemble-in-residence at Vienna's Konzerthaus within the Mozartsaal series. In the 2011/12 season, it will also become the ensemble-in-residence at London's Wigmore Hall.

The Vienna Piano Trio  annually appears at the major stages in Europe, North and South America, and in Asia. In addition, the ensemble has appeared in South Africa, New Zealand and Australia.  In North America, the ensemble  has performed at Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall, Kennedy and Lincoln Centers, the Frick Collection, and at major series in e.g. Philadelphia, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Chicago, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City

Festival appearances include Mozartwoche Salzburg, Schubertiade Schwarzen-berg,  Wiener Festwochen, Carinthischer Sommer, Schleswig-Holstein, Flanders Festival,  Brighton Festival, Aix-en-Provence, Kuhmo, and Casals Festival, Puerto Rico. In North America, the ensemble made very successful appearances at the chamber music festivals of Ottawa, Toronto,  Lanaudiere, Quebec City, Domaine Forget, and the Woodstock Mozart Festival (Beethoven Triple).

Some of the recent touring in Europe took the group to, among others, England (BBC-Manchester, Wigmore Hall, St. Luke’s - the Beethoven Triple with the English Chamber Orchestra, The City of London Festival), Germany (Beethoventage Bonn), Japan (Tokyo, Yokohama), France (Paris, Lyon), Belgium (Brussels, Antwerp), The Netherlands, and Australia and New Zealand.   Beethoven Fest Bonn (the Beethoven Triple w. Munich Chmb. O.), Heidelberg Fruehling (all Schumann trios), and appearances at Berlin Konzerthaus, Hamburg Musikhalle, Munich Gasteig,

Among the highlights of the 09/10 season is their debut at the Shanghai Concert Hall as the opening of a new Vienna Konzerthaus series in Shanghai, and debuts in Moscow and for "Radio France" in Paris as well as extensive tours through North and South America

Concerts of the ensemble have been repeatedly broadcast on NPR stations, and the trio has appeared live on WNYC New York, WGBH Boston and St. Paul Sunday.

Recordings for Nimbus (including trios by Haydn, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Dvorak, Schnittke and Shostakovich) have won many awards; in May 1999 Classic CD voted them "Top of the Class," and The London Times voted their Beethoven CD as Record Of The Year. Of their recording of Mozart trios, Classic CD wrote: "exemplary performances, subtle, eloquent, perfectly balanced, beautifully supple and continuously communicative."  Since 2003, the ensemble has been recording exclusively for MDG. In August 03 and February 04 BBC Music Magazine declared its Vols I and II of Schubert recordings to be Benchmark Recordings. Two Dvorak recordings released in 04 are meeting with critical acclaim.  BBC Music Magazine gives Vol I Five Stars and says: "These performances are, quite simply, stunning...interpretative playing of the highest quality enhanced by a natural sound put this issue well ahead of any other contenders".  Its recording of works by Zemlinsky/Mahler/Schoenberg was released in November 05 and won Pizzicato's  and Supersonic Award for May 2006. Its recording of Smetana and Tchaikovsky released in September 2008 was named to the Gramophone Editor's Choice list of February 2009.  BBC Magazine gave its Haydn recording 5 Stars, and the Haydn just won the prestigious Echo Klassik prize for 2010.
