The Vienna Virtuosi -- a chamber ensemble of solo or first chair players from the Vienna Philharmonic, established in 1990 by the noted solo clarinetist, Ernst Ottensammer -- show the same "cohesion, tradition and excellence" (The Gazette, Montreal) that characterize the famed orchestra. Their playing "has an effortless grace and oozes Viennese charm" (Fanfare) and their performances "match an alpine meadow in loveliness" (Ogaknomoto). The ensemble consists of five string and five wind players, and offers a very extensive selection of chamber works from the Classical, Romantic and Contemporary music repertoire. The Vienna Virtuosi frequently invites world-renowned artists to perform with them, such as Daniel Barenboim, Andre Previn, Rudolf Buchbinder, and Stefan Vladar. The ensemble also sponsors a concert cycle at the Vienna Musikverein, and appears regularly at festivals such as Ossiach, Salzburg and Vienna, and often tours Europe, Japan and the United States.
