![]() Critically acclaimed for her “impeccable taste… and beautiful singing tone” Vesna Gruppman is equally successful as a violin and viola soloist. Winning First Prizes at the J. Kocian International Violin Competition and becoming the first artist to win National Violin Competition in her native Yugoslavia in six conse- cutive years, Vesna started her solo careered as a teenager. By age 16 she had performed as soloist with such ensembles as the Munich Chamber Orchestra, Moscow Philharmonic and Prague Philharmonic orchestras. She had regularly appeared on the radio and TV programs throughout Europe. Vesna graduated from the Moscow Central Special Music School and received her Doctorate in performance and pedagogy from the Moscow Conservatory where she was privileged to study with legendary violinists David Oistrakh, Yuri Jankelevich and Igor Bezrodny. Today Vesna Gruppman continues her active career as soloist and chamber musician. Most recently she appeared with the Edmonton Symphony, the Florida Philharmonic, the San Diego Chamber Orchestra, the Ukraine Philharmonic and London’s Beethoven Philharmonic Orchestra. In recital she appeared at London’s Wigmore Hall and St.John’s Smith Square, Kiev’s Philharmonic Hall and Mozart Hall in Prague. Ms.Gruppman’s solo and chamber music recordings won high praises from such international publications as Gramophone Magazine, Amarucan Record Guide and Classical DisCdigest. Recording of the Concerto for Two Violins and Orchestra by Malcolm Arnold (together with her violinist husband Igor Gruppman) on Koch International won a Grammy Award for it’s producer Michael Fine. Classical DisCdigest article describing Vesna Gruppman’s viola performance and recording of the recreated original version of Brahms’ F Minor Quintet with principal players of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields notes: “Vesna’s electrifyingly intense, ripe-toned viola playing has infused itself into the hearts and minds of British contingent who responded by playing as if their very lives depended on it”. Ms.Gruppman is also a successful
teacher. She is the Head of the Gruppman International Violin Institute.
In the year 2002 American String Teachers Association State Division has
honored Vesna Gruppman with the “Colleague Teacher of the Year” Award.
