The question, "How would Beatles compositions have sounded had they lived in the 17th century?" is answered in the Beatles Suite for Oboe and Basso Continuo; "Michelle" is presented as ragtime in the style of Scott Joplin; "And I Love Her" as one of Erik Satie's gymnopedies- -- and "a brilliant version of 'When I'm 64' played with accentuated speed and dynamic changes, really sounds as if Benjamin Britten had taught Paul McCartney how to compose" (Main-Echo). In addition to Beatles songs in Baroque and Romantic styles, other pop-music is transformed. Oboe Goes BaRock has arranged works of Billy Joel, Michael Jackson, Paul Simon, Eric Clapton, Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass; an Elvis Presley theme is turned into a Passacaglia, and an Irish folksong into a furious Capriccio in the style of Tchaikovsky.
