The Auryn Quartet was awarded the 2009 (Haydn) and the 2010 (music to a children's story) Echo Klassik Prize, and the 2011 Annual Prize of the German Record Reviewers for their recordings of the entire Haydn quartets.
The spirit of friendship has been the driving force behind the Auryn Quartet so that in 2011 it can celebrate a somewhat rare feat: its 30th birthday with the original personnel!
The Plain Dealer has described it as "a quartet in the European tradition that blends elegance of sound with seamless phrasing and clarity of detail" and The Washington Post thought that " its members interact with a sensitivity that seems almost telepathic". Fono Forum said that It has developed an excellent reputation "based upon perfect intonation, exquisite ensemble, a pleasing and sonorous timbre, and stylistically accurate, intense interpretations".
Having studied with the Amadeus and
Guarneri Quartets, the ensemble has developed into one of the most
important quartet of its generation, touring extensively and performing
regularly in the major concert halls of Europe, Israel, North, Central and
South America, Australia and Asia, including Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw, Wiener Konzerthaus, at the Frick Collection, Lincoln Center, Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall, at Berkeley, Ann Arbor, in Montreal.
Ottawa, Vancouver, etc.
The quartet is also a regular guest at numerous festivals such as
After performances of the Beethoven quartet cycle for the Amici della Musica in Padova, Italy the quartet offered the program in Hamburg, in Washington DC, at Bates College in Maine, in Arezzo, Italy. In the 2009/10 season, performances of the Beethoven cycle were scheduled in Berlin and at Wigmore Hall. In the same season, the quartet performed the complete Haydn quartets not only for the WDR Radio in Cologne, but also in Padova and Turin. Each cycle comprises 18 concerts, which includes the “Seven Last Words of Jesus on the Cross”.
The other significant development is a new Festival that the quartet has launched in historic Este in Italy's Veneto. It has also taken on the position of artistic director at the Mondsee Festival, taking over from Heinrich Schiff. .
The quartet has recorded for the
Accord and cpo labels and for a number of years now has been recording
exclusively for the
Tacet, label, It has won won
numerous prizes for the recordings, so e.g. the Diapason
d'Or for the recording of the complete Schubert quartet cycle. TACET
released in 2004 four volumes of the complete Beethoven quartet
literature. For Vol I, the quartet was awarded
the 2004 Classical Internet Award in the category of Chamber Music. And
Gramophone concludes its review of Vols III and
IV: "There is no shortage of great and famous Beethoven cycles, but there
are no performances such as these. For me, this is now the set to
beat."
